Intercountry (International) adoption in Slovakia
Helping clients create a family.
The Intercountry Adoption Process in Slovakia
The intercountry adoption process in Slovakia can generally be divided into two phases:
Pre-adoption phase
This phase mainly consists of the interaction period between the prospective adoptive parents and the child. It includes meetings with all relevant authorities and professionals, temporary cohabitation with the child, and court hearings.
Adoption phase
After at least nine months of living together with the child in the prospective adoptive parents‘ home country, the parents may decide whether to proceed with the permanent adoption. At this stage, they usually need to travel to Slovakia only for the final court hearing and to obtain the child’s new official documents
Legal representation
We also represent clients in intercountry (international) adoption proceedings. For more than eight years, we have been helping families navigate the complex process of intercountry adoption in Slovakia.
Our clients have come from several countries, including France (4 cases), San Marino (1 case), and Malta (1 case). To date, we have successfully provided legal services in six intercountry adoption cases, all carried out under the supervision and in cooperation with the Centre for International Legal Protection of Children and Youth of the Slovak Republic (CIPC). We also maintain excellent relationships with several family support centres throughout Slovakia.
We provide comprehensive legal services throughout the entire adoption process, including:
- drafting legal documents,
- legal representation before Slovak courts,
- communication with the relevant authorities and institutions,
- coordination with CIPC and other involved organisations,
- legal advice throughout all stages of the adoption.
Supporting You Beyond Legal Services
Our goal is not only to provide legal assistance but also to make the entire adoption journey as smooth and stress-free as possible.
We regularly assist our clients with practical matters such as arranging accommodation, planning their arrival and departure, recommending activities to enjoy with their child during their stay in Slovakia, and helping them obtain all necessary documents, including court decisions, apostilles, and other official certificates, as quickly as possible so they can return home without unnecessary delays.
Our clients are welcome to contact us at any time during their stay if they need advice or assistance.
If interpretation is required, we can arrange a professional interpreter for meetings during the interaction phase, court hearings, or any other necessary appointments. We work with experienced interpreters whom we trust.
